The Mountain View Parent Teacher conferences have passed. This event gives opportunities for reflection and introspection is a contentious one among students.
Junior student Jacob Hogg commented “I think that conferences don’t help at all” When pressed further on the matter he said quote. “they just feel like they’re about grades”. Jacob did not go to conferences as states, “My parents stopped caring about them in 5th grade” he largely attributed this to the implementation of Infinite Campus allowing the checking of grades at any time.
Similarly, Dylan Murphy commented “They feel kind of useless” when asked about the Benefits of conferences.
Other students have varying opinions on the matter. Junior, Morgen Wilton in contrast to Jacob has a positive view on matters saying “Conferences help me get focused”.
When asked if he had gone to conferences he confirmed. When asked he said he “liked that it was more student led”
These opinions show how conferences are viewed by different students.
Conferences can be a tool for focusing on what students need support in however they can also be a point of dislike as they can potentially prove useless to certain students. Some view them as a tool for improvement while others do not believe they provide anything of substantial value.
