As the end of the semester approaches, the air around Mountain View High School grows thick with tension. Students are feeling the intense pressure of finals week. The impact of students cramming in last minute assignments, manifesting good grades before finals week, all embracing the stress and anxiety.
For many students, the stress begins weeks before the actual exams. Alejandra Vargas, a sophomore, shared her experience: “I start feeling very pressured as soon as Thanksgiving break ends. The fear of failing one of my tests keeps me up at night.” Alex’s problem is a common one as students balance exams, projects, and papers, all due within the next couple of weeks.
The physical and mental stress are very reasonable and expected. Madisun Ortega, Security hall monitor said, “We see a change in students needing help for anxiety and stress-related issues around finals time.” The tension in the air has everyone practically on edge, studying and remembering as much information as possible can be very pressuring. This environment shows the intensity as students see their classmates working tirelessly.
Finals week is a challenging period for students, testing not only their academics but also their flexibility. Mountain View continues to find ways to support students through this demanding time, recognizing the importance of mental health and well-being while being academically successful.
