Senioritis is an infamous phenomenon going on throughout all high schools recently. Senioritis is the decline in motivation, effort, and interest in schoolwork often experienced by high school or college students during their final year. It manifests as procrastination, declining grades, and increased absences, driven by a desire to finish school, burnout, or anticipation of the next chapter of life. ”A lot of seniors never show up. For example, in ELO, the class has moved down to about 3 students because everyone skips,” said Jake Brown,12.
After years of homework, tests, and early mornings, many students start to feel tired and ready for the next chapter of their lives. Motivation can be harder to find, but the excitement of what comes after school keeps seniors going. Even though the end of the year can feel slow, senioritis also reminds students how far they’ve come. All the late nights they stayed up studying, practices after school, and memories with friends that led up to this moment. Instead of just feeling burnt out, many seniors try to enjoy their final months together, making the most of their last games, events, games, and the times in the hall they’ve walked for years. In the end, senioritis isn’t just about losing motivation but about being ready to move forward. “Senioritis has affected my motivation in school because I already have all my credits because even if I fail, I still graduate,” said Tristan McCrary,12.
Graduation marks the start of new opportunities, whether that means college, work, or other goals. For seniors, the finish line is finally in sight, and that makes all the hard work worth it! “What keeps it motivated during my last year in high school is my passion to learn,” said Cheng Deng,12.
