As the 2025 fall sports season progresses, the Lion Pride Times is taking a deeper dive into each sport, starting with the MVHS Lady Lions softball team.
Currently, the team is 0-9-1; however, there are still positives to be taken out of the season. “I’m feeling great about the season so far. I think we have a lot of beginner players who will get better over time, and for our players who have been playing on this team, I see great progress and potential,” said Mia Flores, 11.
Flores is not the only one who has a positive attitude when it comes to moving forward. “I feel like it is going good this season. I am excited about how good our team is improving over the season,” said captain Alex Simpson, 11.
The next matchup for the Lady Lions is Saturday, 9/13/25, against Greeley Central High School. “I believe the rest of the season is going to go well because I feel like we can get some wins and get more runs on the board and make some good, clean play,” said Simpson.
Although the season has not started well, there are still good moments for these Lady Lions. “Practices, every practice that our team has is so full of laughter and competition, I have never felt so connected to a group of people,” said Flores on the best moments of the season so far.
Despite losing records over the past three seasons (finishing 3-20 in 2022, 2-21 in 2023, and 3-20 in 2024), the team continues to show resilience. The players return year after year, driven by their passion and love for the game. “I play the sport because my whole family plays it, I am hoping to play it in college and inspire other people to play,” said Simpson.
Flores explains that even though they have not won a game yet, there is still hope and excitement for when they finally break through and win their first game of the season. This potential win is a high-stakes situation. Coach Walls owes the team ice cream when that happens.
Let’s go, Lady Lions, earn that ice cream!
